One half and one quarter of the manor of Snowre etc. together with other property in Fordham and elsewhere in Norfolk, Barking (Essex), and Hackney, (Middlesex), were settled respectively by Elizabeth Marchant of Ablington, Glos, widow of Richard Marchant of the same, gent., and by Giles Tombes of Bourton on the Water, Glos, and Elizabeth his wife in 1684. Joseph Small of Minchin Hampton and Bibury, Glos, clothier, gradually acquired these shares. The property in Fordham etc. was sold to John Darell of St James, Westminster, Middlesex, esq., in 1767 after the death of Viner Small of Buthrop and Fairford, Glos, esq., eldest son of Joseph Small of Buthrop, and purchased by Richard Croftes of West Harling, Norfolk, esq., in 1775 and by William Wollaston in 1780.
