Catalogue (with extracts) of manuscripts at Ryston Hall connected with the ownership of the Ryston estate. By E.R.M. Pratt, 1901.

Apart from summaries of documents contained in the 1965 deposit this catalogue also contains extracts from notebooks not deposited including drafts of letters, 1632-1666. Nor have nos 76, 85 and 93 or any of the estate maps apart from the 1601 map of Roxham common (PRA 470) been deposited. There is also a summary of the manner in which the estate was built up from 1557. References to this catalogue in the remainder of the list take the form I no.3 or I p. 216, the numbers referring to the documents numbered at the beginning of the catalogue.

Title deeds to the manor of Snowre alias Snowres alias Snoare alias Snore and Fordham called Lucas and Fordham alias Hembleton Hall alias Uphall in Fordham together with Snore Hall, Pond Close, and 840a. 3r. 28p. in Fordham on the east side of the Ouse including Cross Keys alehouse and the moiety of the rectory of Fordham with the nomination of a perpetual curate to the chapel of Fordham, as purchased by Edward Roger Pratt of Ryston Hall, esq., from William Wollaston of Great Finborough, Suffolk, esq., for £15,000 in 1791.

    • Part of Pratt Family of Ryston Hall, Norfolk

One half and one quarter of the manor of Snowre etc. together with other property in Fordham and elsewhere in Norfolk, Barking (Essex), and Hackney, (Middlesex), were settled respectively by Elizabeth Marchant of Ablington, Glos, widow of Richard Marchant of the same, gent., and by Giles Tombes of Bourton on the Water, Glos, and Elizabeth his wife in 1684. Joseph Small of Minchin Hampton and Bibury, Glos, clothier, gradually acquired these shares. The property in Fordham etc. was sold to John Darell of St James, Westminster, Middlesex, esq., in 1767 after the death of Viner Small of Buthrop and Fairford, Glos, esq., eldest son of Joseph Small of Buthrop, and purchased by Richard Croftes of West Harling, Norfolk, esq., in 1775 and by William Wollaston in 1780.
