Historique

Son of Robert de Losing who eventually became Abbot of Winchester. Son of an abbot. Educated at Fecamp Monastery in Normandy, becoming a Benedictine monk. Prior of Ramsey in Huntingdonshire. Removed his see from Thetford to Norwich on 9 April 1094. Elected 9 April 1090, consecrated by Thomas, Archbishop of York 9 April 1094, probably in church of St Michael, Tombland, the head church in Norwich at that time. Built his palace on the north side of the cathedral, and the monastery on the south side. Built St Nicholas' Church, Great Yarmouth, St Margaret's Church, King's Lynn, St Mary's Church, North Elmham, St Leonard's on the Hill and St Mary in the Marsh. Laid the foundation stone of Norwich Cathedral. In 1106 he took part in the translation of St Etheldreda's body from the old church at Ely to the new. Buried in Norwich Cathedral before the high altar. \r\nWrote a book of monastic constitutions, and two books on the length of the age and the end of the world. Also letters and sermons. Lived in Norwich 1094. Died 22 July 1119.
