Administrative history

W[illiam] S[mith] Ferrier was named as Great Yarmouth coroner in 1845 in the White's Trade Directory of the same year. In 1850 he was described as consulting surgeon at the Royal Hospital, Great Yarmouth. The following list of coroners was also obtained from trade directories; Charles Henry Chamberlain, 23 King Street (1850-1868); William Holt, South Quay (1877-1883); John Tolver Waters, South Quay (1888-1916); George Frederick Durrant Preston, 8 South Quay (1922-1925); Cecil Thomas Ashworth Beevor, 8 South Quay (1929); Richard Gournay Ferrier, 5 Queen Street (1933-1940); Geoffrey John Bracey, 23 Regent Street (1948-1952); G.L. Talbot, 23 Regent Street (1955); Leslie E England, 7 South Quay (1957-1976); K.M. Dowding, 11 Queen Street, later 6 South Quay (1976-?).
Amalgamated with the Greater Norfolk Coroner’s District to form the Norfolk Coroner’s District which came into force on 1 April 2010 [Norfolk (Coroners’ Districts) Order 2010].
