Scope and content

Errington & Co. were leading herring boat owners at Great Yarmouth in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. According to C.J. Palmer, 'Perlustration of Yarmouth', ii, (1874), 315, George Errington 'was extensively engaged in the herring fishery, and compiled voluminous statistics relating to the same, which are now in the Public Library'. The Public Library was merged in the Great Yarmouth Borough Library which was destroyed by bombing in the Second World War, so the present document is presumably a contemporary copy.
