History

Son of the Maharajah Duleep Singh of Lahore who after his deposition in 1849 came to England and lived at Elveden Hall in Suffolk. (The Maharajah died in Paris in 1893.) Frederick was educated at Eton and Cambridge, served in the Suffolk and Norfolk militias and fought in France from 1917. Prince Frederick lived successively at Old Buckenham and Blo Norton Halls. He collected a vast amount of antiquarian material relating to Norfolk. He was greatly interested in antiquities and published articles in Connoisseur and the Burlington Magazine, as well as in the journals of the Norfolk and Suffolk archaeological societies.
Prince Frederick never married. He died on 15 August 1926, aged 58. He is buried at Blo Norton: there is a memorial tablet to him in the church.
