Biographical history

Robert Stimpson (1805-1886), son of Benjamin Stimpson (c 1772-1831) and Mary Sopher farmed, like his father, at Alderford, and leased Church Farm at Great Witchingham from 1848. Robert married Mary Moore and had five children, including Robert and William who emigrated to New Zealand, and Benjamin (1836-1908). Benjamin trained as a butcher, but also farmed at Morton-on-the-Hill and purchased Sall Moor Farm in 1869. He later farmed at Alderford and at Park Farm, Bixley. His eldest son, another Benjamin (1859-1892) took over Church Farm at Great Witchingham after Robert Stimpson's death. The other children of Benjamin of Morton were Arthur (born c 1860), Robert (born c 1863), Elizabeth, Clara, Morton (born c 1872, emigrated to South Africa) and Edward (born c 1876). Edward inherited his father's coal, corn and cake merchant's business, the Sall Coal Company, which was based at Reepham Station. He purchased Sall Moor Hall Farm from his father's executors in 1909. Church Farm, Englands Farm and Lower Clay Hall Farm at Great Witchingham were purchased by E. Stimpson (Farms) Ltd., in 1952.
