The manor was held by the Earl of Oxford in the sixteenth century; Edward de Vere, Earl of Oxford, is given as lord in 1555. The manor is one of 14 Norfolk manors leased for 40 years by Sir John Hobart to Sir Nicholas le Strange, John Hobart of Weybread (Suffolk) and others in 1640 [NRO, NRS 26514].\r\nIn a court roll of 1635 Thomas Hobart is given as lord. The priory at Weybourne was founded by Sir Ralph Manwaring in the reign of King John. It passed to the Crown at the Dissolution and was granted to Richard Heydon in 1545.
