History

Edward (Ted) Taylor left the RAF in 1956 with experience as a radar engineer and went to work in a similar field for GEC at Portsmouth. His wife's relatives in Norwich sent the Evening News to them at least once a week, and he responded to an advertisement for a technician to work on a computer for Norwich City Council. The City Treasurer, A.J. Barnard, was the prime mover in the project. The computer was built by Elliotts at Borehamwood and Ted Taylor spent some time there helping with its construction. He was later a programmer and then systems analyst and worked, inter alia, at Thames Water. He retired in 1985.
