Cpl Douglas Noel Pleasant served as a tail gunner with the Steneman Crew (crew no. 809) with the 858th Bomb Squadron, 492nd Bomb Group. The Steneman Crew was reassigned to the 859th Bomb Squadron and redesignated the Steneman Crew crew no. (crew no. 909), 19 June 1944. The crew's final mission, 7 July 1944, targetted an aircraft manufacturing plant in Bernburg, Germany. The aircraft was shot down near Egeln and Ohrsleben, Germany, and three crewmen, including Cpl Pleasant were killed, the remaining crew were captured and held as prisoners of war.
