History

Born Thorpe Hamlet, Norwich, died Hellesdon. Daughter of George Jewson, niece of William and Frank Jewson, successively head of the Jewson timber firm. Dorothy was the daughter of George Jewson, of the Jewson timber firm, and his wife Mary, formerly Mary Jarrold. She was active in the sufragette movement in the years before the First World War, and in trade union activities during and after it. She was Labour MP for Norwich 1923-4, one of the earliest female Members of Parliament. She was also a Norwich city councillor between 1927 and 1937.
