History

Born in Hingham in 1892 (the son of James Edgar Rae, born 13 March 1857). Educated at the King's Lynn Grammar School and, much later, at St Catherine's College, Cambridge. After leaving school, he taught as a junior master in a minor public school in Bungay, Suffolk. His teaching career was interrupted by the First World War, in which he served with the Black Watch and the Seaforth Highlanders. After the War, he obtained a place as a mature student at Cambridge, then trained at Ely Theological College, and was ordained in 1924/5. He served the churches at St Johns, Bury St Edmunds, St Thomas' in Ipswich, St John the Baptist at Bathwick, Bath (Oct 1932-1940), and finally, St Giles, Norwich. He was a musician and boy scout group leader, both in his Suffolk parishes and in Norwich. He died, after a short illness, on 30 October 1964.
