Biographical history

James Stone was born in Norwich on 28 June 1806 and derived his income from the ownership of property. He was the son of Samuel Stone, a lawyer and his wife, Elizabeth. He spent the majority of his life residing in the family home in Castle Street, Norwich, and also visited Cromer and London frequently. James Stone died unmarried, 22 November 1880.
His brother, Revd Samuel Stone, was the rector at St Augustine's church, Norwich. He also had two sisters, Agatha and Elizabeth Simpson Stone. The latter donated money to the Gorleston Volunteer Lifeboat Association, which led to the naming of the lifeboat 'Elizabeth Simpson' in her honour.
