Biographical history

Born 1745. Died 1821. Worked for a corn merchants in Yarmouth and then became a clerk at the Cobholm salt works. In 1777 he moved to Norwich to become manager of the New Mills. Retired in 1793 or 1794 and moved to Southtown: he continued to take an interest in the corn trade.

The diaries are contained in printed pocket books, most being annual issues of the Norfolk and Norwich Complete Memorandum Book, containing varied amounts of detailed information on public holidays including important days of business in Norwich and the county of Norfolk, Norwich aldermen and common councillors, committee members, corporation officers, and also. from the 1790s onwards, the names of treasurers of local hospitals, surgeons, officers of local courts, governors of the Bethel, bankers, members of parliament, the postal service, officers of local charities and schools, officers of excise and traders to London, Newcastle, Sunderland and Rotterdam, carriers to and from Norwich, tide tables and fairs in Norfolk.
