Biographical history

The son of a clergyman, Shewring studied at Regent Street Polytechnic, London and became primarily a church and conservation architect. He had an interest in King's Lynn and Norfolk from an early date and by 1967 had moved to Lynn, where he and his wife, Claire, lived at King Staithe Mill, which he converted to residential use. After retiring from private practice, he became Conservation Officer to King's Lynn Borough Council, later West Norfolk District Council. He was also appointed architectural adviser to St Margaret's church and St Nicholas's chapel in Lynn. In 1981, he and his wife moved to 16 Nelson Street. In later life, he converted to the Russian Orthodox Church.
