Scope and content

Catechism Lands or Scarburgh Charity
Mary Scarburgh established a charity for catechising the young children of North Walsham. In 1690, Anna Catharine and John Meux Kendall settled land in Antingham Hill Close on the charity. £4 15s of the income from the property was used by the trustees to pay a person to teach the children in church every Sunday.
Poor's Allotment Charity
Under the North Walsham and Felmingham enclosure award of 1814, 34 acres 33 perches of land was set out to trustees for the poor of North Walsham, the income from which was used to purchase coals for the poor of the parish. Under the Charity Commission Scheme of 1881, the vicar, churchwardens and overseers were appointed as the charity's trustees, and the income was to be used to supply fuel, clothes, linen, medical or other aid in sickness, food and other articles in kind to the poor of North Walsham; to pay subscriptions or donations to dispensaries or hospitals; and make contributions towards outfits for those under the age of 21 entering a trade or going into service.
John Howes Charity
By his will, John Howes of Norwich bequeathed £200 to the vicar and churchwardens of North Walsham, the income from which was to be used to distribute coal, blankets and clothing to the poor of North Walsham.
