Administrative history

At an inquisition held in 1330, Thomas Bardolf was found to have been in possession of the manor. John was his son and heir [IPM 7/174]. At inquisitions taken in 1363, Sir John Bardolf of Wormegay was found to have been in possession of the manor, held with Cantley, Strumpshaw, Runcton, Whinburgh, Wormegay and Fincham as part of the barony Bardolf. William was his son and heir [IPM 11/396]. William de Bardolph de Wormegay died in possession, 1385-6; heir his son Thomas [IPM 16/224]. Agnes, widow of Sir John Bardolf, died in possession, holding of the barony of Wormegay, 1403; heir her son Sir Thomas Bardolf [IPM 18/793]. Purchased by the Hare family of Stow Bardolph in 1557, and remained in their hands.\r\nSir Thomas Hare, Bt, is given as lord of the manors in Stow Bardolph in White's Trade Directory (1845).\r\nThomas Leigh Hare, Esq., is given as lord of the manors in White's Trade Directory, 1883.\r\nLast transaction dated: 1889; lord of the manor: ?; Steward: ?
