Joseph F. Bradley flew 10 missions as radio operator with the 328th Bomb Squadron, 44th Bomb Group. On 21 September 1944, two B-24s collided in mid-air over Ingelmunster, Belgium, with the loss of all crew on one aircraft and only four survivors from the other. Bradley returned to duty and completed 30 missions. Crew members who successfully parachuted to safety were eligible for membership of the 'Caterpillar Club'. This club was, and is, open to anyone, military or civilian, whose life is saved by the use of a parachute.
