Administrative history
At Bethel Street, Norwich. The Bethel Hospital in Norwich was founded by Mary Chapman as a charitable institution in accordance with terms of her husband's will and was opened in 1713. It was the first purpose-built asylum in the country.
Following the Second World War, the Bethel became an annexe to Hellesdon Hospital. It was used as an outpatient unit until 1974, when it continued as the Centre for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry but closed in 1994, and has been converted for residential and office use.
