History

Born in 1886 in Wisbech, Arthur Artis Oldham appears to have been employed in a clerical capacity ('third writer') by the Royal Navy during the First World War. He seems to have been based at Canterbury in 1914, but in 1917, was serving in the Shetland Isles. After the War, he returned to live in his home town of Wisbech, but travelled widely as a shipping agent. He also wrote and lectured on various local history topics and on campanology. In the 1930s, he was treasurer of his local congregational church. At the age of 73 years, in 1959, he moved to Thorpe End, Norwich.
