Administrative history

‘Anglia Square: A Love Story’ was a year-long project supported by funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund. The Common Lot worked in partnership with researchers at Anglia Ruskin University to recruit a group of volunteers to investigate three areas of Anglia Square’s heritage: 1, the long history of the area from the earliest settlement to the bombing in the Second World War; 2, the planning decisions of the 1960s that led to the development; and 3, taking the oral testimony of those who have lived and worked in and around Anglia Square over the last 40 years.

The resulting material was used to: 1, write original songs to be sung by a community choir; 2, stage a True Stories Live event in June 2019 and a free, original, outdoor community theatre show in July 2019; 3, publish a song-book, heritage booklet and website celebrating and commemorating the area’s heritage. The project also enabled historical work with five local schools using visual art and performance.
