Biographical history
Judge George Herbert Head trained in law, moved to Canada because of his mining interests, but at the start of WW1, returned to England to practice law in London and Yorkshire. He married Geraldine M Head, and bought a house in Burnham Overy Staithe. Partly through temporary poverty after returning to England, Geraldine started, in 1915, contributing to womens' magazines to earn money, and became an accomplished writer of romantic fiction (under pen-names, Gerald Court and Marian Temple) and practical help articles, all published throughout the 1920s to 1940s. Sons, Henry (drowned whilst serving in 1944) and Adrian were both given public schooling and an Oxbridge education. Adrian followed his father into law and became a barrister, ending up as a judge in civil law, specialising in matrimonial causes. He was an inventor, a prolific letter-writer and journal keeper, and also wrote poetry and, in later life, painted. He was a free-mason, but also became in mid-life onwards, a lay-reader for the Church of England, serving as such for over 30 years in local churches in North Norfolk. In July 1947, he married Ann Pamela Stanning, and they both travelled and participated in the creative arts (Ann was considered to be the more accomplished painter) while attending many exhibitions, London and Norfolk-based shows and plays. She was a keen sailor and they often sailed around the east coast of England, choosing to moor their craft in the River Roach in Essex. She also had family estates in Leyland, Lancs and in Kenya, and business interests in Norfolk Lavender Ltd. They has sons, Christopher, Henry and David. Judge Adrian Head died in 2008 and his widow in c 2018.
